Today is World Puppetry Day!  Puppets have long (I mean, like, really long) been a staple of popular culture, at least from Ancient Greece, if not before, all the way through Punch & Judy and Pinocchio and Howdy Doody and the Muppets and Sesame Street, diminutive finger puppets and ginormous puppets on parade, sock puppets and shadow puppets, and the puppet/marionette theaters of Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond.  For a quick fantastical look into the Prague puppet scene, read Laini Taylor’s e-novella Night of Cake & Puppets (in fact, read the whole series).
